Learning it the hard way…

So a friend and I decided that we wanted to play a game together, so we picked a game called FlatOut2, because Re-Volt does not like Windows 7 64-bit. After the installation of the game ends it says that you need to install some protect drivers, which are being blocked by Windows, because they are not signed. Left without no choice I just cancel the installation of these drivers. I find out the game works fine without.

On my friends computer though, the installation of the drivers is not blocked and they install fine and asks to reboot the machine, he reboots it and now he is met by a friendly screen saying that Windows cannot boot and it will try to repair it, though without finding any solutions to the problem. Failsafe mode does not work, deleting the game from recovery console does not help either; he had to reinstall.

Since I did not install the drivers I did not reboot my machine until today, a couple of days after the incident with his machine, exactly the same problem. I had to reinstall Windows 7 on my machine as well.

Strange thing about this is that I had FlatOut2 installed on the same Windows 7 installation before and then I did not have any problems, how the heck can a simple game screw the installation up so much?

Anyways, my advice is to omit this game and not install it at all if, unless you want to reinstall Windows on your computer.

Red Alert became freeware!

For you who did not know. The old game Red Alert that EA owns rights too has been released as freeware, and has been in this state for three months. You might think its an old and buggy game, but there is this nice project called OpenRedAlert, who are fixing bugs and adding features to the game.

Hellgate: London… *yawn*

I got Hellgate: London some weeks ago, and I’ve been playing it a couple of times, and I feel like I’m doing the same things over and over again. I get a quest, go kill the monsters or retrieve the item or go to hell and kill some monsters, and get back with some new info for the leader in the camp/station I’m at. When all quests are complete in the station I’m at, I go to the next one as asked, and repeat the same boring quests over and over again.

The games graphics are pretty nice, but I just don’t like the repetitive game play, which gets boring after I played it about 5 hours in total or so. So I am going to drop this game, and I’ll probably not return to it ever, cause it bores me so much when I play it. I’d rather play some older games like Diablo or Diablo II that reminds me of this game, but does not have the same graphics, and doesn’t have any guns, thats the whole difference. I wouldn’t recommend this game to anyone, unless I hate the person.

Half Life 2

Yesterday I completed Half Life 2, which I have tried a couple of times before, but my computer either blew up or I formatted it and installed Linux on it. But since I got a laptop capable of playing newer games, I’ve been playing some Half Life 2, which is a great game. Just as great as the fist one. I like the source engine, even though it is old, it gives a whole bunch of new cool things, such as the gravity gun that lets you pick up items and throw them around, and later in the game it gives the capability of just kick ass! But yeah I completed it, and I liked it so much that I bought Valve Complete Pack on Steam, which contains Episode 1 and Episode 2 expansion packs for the game and other cool games, which i haven’t had the time to try yet. But I’d recommend the game to anyone who hasn’t tried it yet, cause it is just so great – the story, the characters and the gravity gun. Though I miss some more monsters, like in the first Half Life. The decapitated pigs that sometimes suddenly appeared and fired a electric jolt at you, or some of the other cool monsters. But well all in all it was cool, and I look forward to play episode 1 and 2.
